Housing can be a huge problem after a disaster. Buyers are often faced with having to find a house on their own in a completely unfamiliar area, and are easy prey for unscrupulous sellers or builders. Please feel free to call or email me for advice on any real estate questions you may have. If you are in need of a new home, allow me to be your buyer agent. I am a member of BOTH the Baton Rouge (GBRAR) and New Orleans (NOMAR) MLS systems, which cover all of southeast Louisiana and beyond. I can also refer you to a good buyer agent in other areas as well. Remember that having a buyer agent working for you costs you nothing, as commissions on listed properties are paid by the seller. Unlike many agents, I very much like working with buyers, and spend a lot of time going over the details. I don't want my clients to have to waste their time looking at a lot of properties which do not fit their needs and desires. I try to narrow it down as much as possible using the criteria they give me. Also, I'm glad to go check them out for you myself, taking a lot of digital pictures, then emailing them to you with my comments and very objective opinions. This is especially important if you are displaced.
When acting as a buyer agent for my clients, I look at every home as if I were buying it for myself. I am thorough, objective, and very detail-oriented. No house is perfect, and I make sure you are aware of all the good AND the bad stuff about any house we consider. If I do not feel a house is a good house, and a good deal, I will tell you so very clearly. I cannot in good conscience recommend a property to a client unless I know it's a wise choice for them.
Also, if you plan to ask your mortgage company and creditors to defer your payments, feel free to ask Danielle about how to deal with them. Deferred payments can cause major problems if not handled correctly. Over 3 years after Katrina, she still has clients with huge credit issues due to their mortgage companies mishandling their loans after the storm! Avoid this possibility by making sure it’s done right. She’ll be glad to offer her advice as a free courtesy to you at this difficult time. Continued on page 4...
